Description of Port Authority Y500 / #Y500
Nobody has time to iron a seven-year-old’s shirt at 7:15 on a school morning, and this Polo Shirt gets that. It’s made from Port Authority’s Silk Touch pique, a 5-ounce poly/cotton blend that resists wrinkles and shrinking, so it can go from the dryer (or, let’s be honest, the floor) straight onto a kid and still look decent by the time the bus pulls up.
The fabric lives up to its name, too. It’s smooth and soft, which helps with the kids who treat anything with a collar like a punishment. Port Authority sized the details to fit smaller bodies: the little sizes get a two-button placket and the bigger ones get three, so the neckline looks right on a kindergartner and a seventh grader alike. The buttons are metal with plastic rims dyed to match, the collar and cuffs are flat knit, and side vents at the hem give a bit of room for wiggling, climbing and whatever else happens before lunch. The armholes and hem are double-needle stitched, which is handy when the shirt’s going to be pulled over a head a few hundred times a year.
This is the same Silk Touch polo that adults have worn to work for years, so schools and teams can put teachers, coaches and students in one matching look. There’s even a long sleeve youth version for when the weather turns.
